During 1999, the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Stellenbosch generously made one of their lecture halls available for permanent use by SUNSTEP. An area was set aside to become the TRAC Laboratory and the SUNSTEP Studio.
The SUNSTEP studio severs as venue for our School Centre, which holds workshops in Electronics and Electricity for both educators and learners, mostly from the previously disadvantaged communities.
Due to time regulations, these Electricity and Electronics workshops usually take place during the afternoon for educators and in the mornings for learners.
The SUNSTEP Studio also serves as venue for the SUNSTEP Electronics club, run by Mr Henry Chamberlain. Learners voluntarily attend the SUNSTEP Electronics Club in the afternoons on a weekly basis where they are taught and stimulated to design technological answers to their problems. In this way, learning to design and understand circuits becomes an enjoyable activity. Some of the outcomes have even been projects worthy of a Science EXPO entry!
